I read about Pizza Pilgrims in the latest August edition of Scootering Magazine and Sticky's interview with brothers, Thom and James Elliot.
It is basically Thom and James' story of them giving up their 'proper' jobs and with their savings flying to Calabria, where they purchase an Ape TM and drive it back to London, install a stone pizza oven and start up Pizza Pilgrims. En route back to London they stop off and learn the traditional, authentic ways of pizza making from artisan pizzeria's in Napoli, the birthplace of Pizza, as well as discovering Nduja salsiccie, which becomes an essential ingredient of their resulting pizza business.
I haven't had the pleasure of tasting a pizza from Pizza Pilgrims but on the back of Scootering's article will be making it a personal priority in the near future! I will of course be sampling pizza from 'Concetta' the Ape van, as opposed to the restaurants which I'm sure are equally as good!
Check out Rob Western's Pizza Pilgrimage Flickr album here where he records the journey...
