There are times when I'll admit to wishing I was Italian, or at least residing in Italia. This particularly rings true when I see photos like these, sent to me by Antonio Saija of his tour of Sicily 23-30 April, 2012 on his very nice Sprint Veloce. Never mind the food, climate, architecture, countryside, language, design, warm seas etc I'd just love to take off on my Sprint Veloce for some local touring like Antonio.... aah one can only wish!

Designing 007: 50 Years of Bond Style

"Mr Bond, you have an annoying habit of staying alive... "

 

The Barbican marks the 50th anniversary of the James Bond franchise, from 1962's Dr No to this year's Skyfall, with a unique exhibition showcasing the inside story of the design and style of the world's most influential and iconic movie brand. 

 

Saw a poster advertising this exhibition at the Barbican, as I got off the train at Euston this morning. Like most 'boys' I'm a James Bond fan (Sean Connery all the way for me); my fave films being 'Goldfinger' & 'From Russia with Love' (quite like 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service' too) - the title songs, cars, watches, furniture, clothes, sets & architecture etc doing it for me from the '60's rather than later decades...

I'll definitely get along to this exhibition which runs from 6th July - 5th September 2012, 11am - 8pm (Thurs until 10pm) To see full details & how to book tickets click here

World Vespa Days fotos from S.I.P. Scootershop

I hung out with the S.I.P. boys for a fair chunk of the World Vespa Days event (14th - 18th June) which involved dinner one night, a few drinks, one long sight seeing ride thru central London & a lot of insanely fast riding through the centre of town, late at night in the wee small hours. It was excellent fun; they're great company & ride some very cool classic vespas; in most cases old, orig. paint scoots tuned to within an inch of their sorry lives!!

Euro Lambretta Belgium, 2012 by David Hardy

I don't see as much of David Hardy as I'd like to due to lack of time, work & our busy lives keeping us apart but I count him as a friend, advisor, creative talent & all round cool guy. We share passions for photography, riding, scooters, vintage vehicles & great design.....

Dave is the guy behind the excellent Team S Equipe website & ETR (Enjoy the Ride) blog. The Team S Equipe site has just been given a 'new lick of paint' by Dave & looks fantastic; check out the newly designed site & blog when you have some spare time - you'll thank me for it!

Vespa pin-up

The idea of the ongoing 'pin-up' series is to show what I think could be decent modern takes on the old Piaggio pin-up shots, used in their calendars & advertising of the 1950s, '60s & '70s. I hope the shots posted to date are viewed as tasteful with artistic merit rather than just 'vespa porn' which isn't the idea...

Anyway the above shot is a good example I reckon & liking the very nice blue Sprint Veloce too. Unfortunately I don't know who the photographer of this quality shot is; it was re-blogged from the inspiring Retro Scooter Garage blog
