Betty Wright: The Movie

                 above images by Diana Levine

I had a relaxed New Year's Eve this year which included watching the consistently excellent Jools Holland's annual 'Hootenanny' which if you're quick you can still catch on BBC's iplayer here  If you're reading this too late check out the BBC's 'Later with Jools Holland' page here

Unquestionably, for me anyway, the best bit of Jool's New Year offering was Betty Wright guesting on the show, particularly her excellent track 'In the Middle of the Game (Don't Change the Play)'. On the back of this I downloaded Betty Wright & The Roots' 2011 album Betty Wright: The Movie. This is just a beautiful sounding soul/funk album which you need in your music collection! See New York Times review here

As for the superb album cover images above; these were taken by New York based photographer Diana Levine, check out Diana's website here at

I don't blog about music too much on here, only when something really grabs me like the above or this album: The Empire Strikes Back
