1953 Europe trip by Vespa

"In 1953, Dave Lee and Rick Ronvik, two semi-mature college guys—and lifelong buddies, took a quarter year off from their college studies, worked in the galley of a ship bound for France, bought two 1953 Utility Vespa motor scooters, and set out on an extended scooter trip through France, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, and England. They were 20 and 21 at the time."

Fantastic story & images of this 1953 European tour by Vespa. Read the full story here from where I re-blogged the above images & text.

I can't remember seeing such good period shots of the now ultra rare Vespa 125U. Ironic how the 125U was the least expensive in the Vespa range at the time. Now it is one of the most sought after Vespa models by collectors & sells for very high prices when they rarely come up for sale. See previous vespamore post here about the Vespa 125U.
